Gallbladder Disease
Dr. Gilliam is one of the most experienced surgeons in the Kentucky and Tri-state area in laparoscopic surgery. In February 1990 he performed the first laparoscopic gallbladder surgery in Kentucky and has been recognized across the state as an expert in this area. His operative experience in laparoscopic gallbladder surgery is extensive providing his patients with the most modern techniques and the benefit of his skills. Dr. Martin has trained extensively in laparoscopic surgery and has a surgical interest in advanced laparoscopic procedures.
Gallbladder surgery is performed on patients with gallstones and with the diagnosis of biliary dyskinesia. Preoperative evaluation may include ultrasound of the gallbladder, HIDA scans or other tests necessary to eliminate peptic disease or reflux as a comorbid condition. The majority of gallbladder surgeries are able to be performed laparoscopically, but some more complex gallbladder patients may rarely require an open surgical approach.
